Merlot forms the heart of the wine, bringing generous fruit and a smooth texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc contribute structure and complexity, and a small proportion of Syrah adds an additional dimension to this harmonious blend. The grapes are hand-harvested and manually selected, followed by a 15-day temperature-controlled fermentation at 26°C. Malolactic fermentation and maturation initially take place in stainless steel for six months before the wine is aged for 18 months in used 500-litre oak barrels. After the individual components are blended, La Vida spends a further six months in stainless steel, allowing the varieties to integrate while preserving the purity of the fruit. The result is an outstanding, elegant and beautifully balanced flagship wine that embodies the philosophy behind its name: La Vida – life itself.
