Vida Bikavér Szekszárd PDO is a premium Szekszárdi Bikavér from Hungary, blending traditional Hungarian varieties Kékfrankos and Kadarka with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Elegant, complex and beautifully balanced, it represents a refined expression of Hungary’s historic Bikavér – “Bull’s Blood” – wine tradition. Grape Varieties: Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Kadarka, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Country: Hungary Region: Szekszárd Appellation: Szekszárd PDO Wine Type: Dry red blend – Bikavér (Bull’s Blood) Alcohol: 13.0% vol. Harvest: Hand-harvested with manual bunch selection Fermentation: 16 days at 28°C Ageing: 6 months in stainless steel + 24 months in used oak barrels Serving Temperature: 16–18°C Elegant and complex, this Bikavér combines ripe red and dark fruit with rich spicy nuances, supported by a harmonious structure and beautiful balance. Kékfrankos provides freshness and backbone, while Kadarka contributes its characteristic spicy elegance, complemented by the depth and structure of the Bordeaux varieties. Bikavér, traditionally known as “Bull’s Blood”, is one of Hungary’s historically important red wine styles, with Szekszárd being one of its two traditional regions of origin. Vida’s interpretation is produced from carefully hand-harvested and manually selected grapes, followed by a 16-day fermentation at 28°C. After six months in stainless steel, 70% of the wine matures in 1,000-litre used barrels and 30% in used 300- and 500-litre barrels for 24 months. The use of larger, previously used oak allows the complexity and spice of the blend to develop without overwhelming its fruit and varietal character.
