Valdecuevas Alium 2022 is a limited-production Tempranillo from Castilla y León, Spain, made from different Tempranillo clones grown in a small 55-year-old vineyard. Concentrated old-vine fruit, French oak ageing and extended bottle maturation create a powerful, complex and distinctive Spanish red wine. Grape Variety: 100% Tempranillo – selection of different clones Country: Spain Region: Castilla y León Vintage: 2022 Wine Type: Dry red wine Alcohol: 14.5% vol. Vineyard: 2 hectares Vine Age: 55 years Ageing: 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels + 12 months in bottle before release Production: Limited – approximately 6,000 bottles Food Pairing: Grilled or roasted meats, stews, cured cheeses, Iberian charcuterie and pasta with rich sauces Ruby in colour, Alium offers a complex bouquet of sweet spices, mineral notes and eucalyptus, layered over concentrated confit black fruit. Full-bodied and generous on the palate, it combines depth and concentration with complexity and a long, persistent finish. The distinctive personality of Alium comes from a selection of different Tempranillo clones planted in a 2-hectare, 55-year-old vineyard, remarkably surrounded by a sea of Verdejo vines. The mature vines naturally produce small quantities of highly concentrated fruit. The wine matures for 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels, followed by another 12 months of bottle ageing before release. With only around 6,000 bottles produced, Alium is a small-production wine that highlights the concentration and character of mature Tempranillo vines.
