Valdecuevas Alium Tinto 2020 is a limited-production Tempranillo from Castilla y León, Spain, crafted from different Tempranillo clones grown in a small, 55-year-old vineyard. Concentrated old-vine fruit, French oak maturation and extended bottle ageing create a powerful, complex and distinctive red wine. Grape Variety: 100% Tempranillo – selection of different clones Country: Spain Region: Castilla y León Vintage: 2020 Wine Type: Dry red wine Alcohol: 14.5% vol. Vineyard: 2 hectares Vine Age: 55 years Ageing: 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels + 12 months in bottle before release Production: Limited – approximately 6,000 bottles Food Pairing: Grilled or roasted meats, stews, cured cheeses, Iberian charcuterie and pasta with rich sauces Ruby in colour, Alium reveals an expressive bouquet of sweet spices, mineral nuances and eucalyptus, layered over concentrated confit black fruit. On the palate, it is full-bodied, complex and generous, with impressive concentration and a long, persistent finish. The personality of Alium comes from a selection of different Tempranillo clones grown in a 2-hectare vineyard planted 55 years ago, remarkably surrounded by Verdejo vineyards. The mature vines naturally produce small yields of highly concentrated fruit. The wine is aged for 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels, followed by another 12 months in bottle before release. With only around 6,000 bottles produced, Alium is a distinctive small-production Tempranillo showcasing the depth and concentration of mature vines.
